Seriously. I used to like other subblogs like io9 and Gizmodo. Now that Gawker’s former writers are writing for other blogs, it seems like Gawker’s ilk is leaking into blogs like the ones above mentioned. Case in point:
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
What the fuck does io9 have to do with people getting bent out of shape about the color of a children’s costume ?
And what does Gizmodo have to do with a news story about a bomb in Manhattan with an obligatory mention of Donald Trump?
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Give us articles actually related to the subblog you’re posting it on or write somewhere else. It’s almost as if Gawker’s agenda will be pushed whether there is a Gawker or not.

Unfortunately, you’re not a special little snowflake. As such, the Internet isn’t tailored to your liking. Watch some football, the give us a rage post about players kneeling during the anthem. STICK TO SPORTS!

He does have a bit of a point though. What other profession can you be hired to do a certain job, and then not do it?
Think about school. If your homework in English was to write an essay about Catcher in the Rye, and you wrote one on Huck Finn instead, you would get an F.

What? Never did I say that the authors should only write about what I want to read. I did and do expect, however, that articles be relevant to their respective blog. Is that really a special-snowflake-level request? Also, football is as interesting to me as watching paint dry.

You go to certain sites for certain content. Now if that site’s content suddenly changes, I think you are in your right to have an opinion about that.
Best thing to do is just not click on those links or find another source of content. In the end they will do what gets them the most clicks and makes them the most money.
The great thing about the internet is that it IS tailored to your liking as you have a very large pool of sources to pick from.

These guys are writers. If they’re writing what their editors want, then they’re doing their jobs. If the stuff is being published, then it’s what their editors want. Is this a real question, or do you not understand how writing jobs work?
Once you're out of high school, you'll realize that real jobs don't operate like school.

Gizmodo, Jezebel, and Deadspin have almost always been troll blogs (as was Gawker).
Hopefully those same blogs will have Gawken counterparts soon.

You’re not wrong, and it’s fairly repulsive, especially when they try to worm the agenda into other works. Even some of the Jalopnik works sneak in little tidbits, be it a wholly-unnecessary jab at Trump, or a perceived skin-color reference for an automaker’s new product’s target audience, and so much more.
I’m genuinely hoping Univision is only giving these writers a short time with the “new gawker” until they find other employment at the type of smut magazine they endeavor to emulate

You’re pretty quick with the ad hominem jabs aren’t you? Could it be that the editor’s aren’t doing a satisfactory job as well? The only reason that any of these blogs exist is readership. So strip away your readership and do you have editors? Authors? No, not for long at least. Believe it or not, I think that a blog’s readership ought to express disdain over said blog not putting out relevant content. Crazy thought, but it’s mine none the less.

Then let’s think of a restaurant. If it’s an Italian restaurant and you’re an Italian chef, but the boss all the sudden wants you to make Asian food. Even if you make good Asian food, that’s not what any customers came to your Italian restaurant for.
When you start moving far away from the point of the blog you lose readers. When you lose readers you become out of a job. Loss of readers is how these sites close and lose all authorship.

Cross-sharing simply doesn’t need to exist. We have access to all of the blogs. We don’t need shit from one blog reposted onto another.

Cross sharing is fine IMO, as long as there’s still enough relevance. (And there needs to be a substantial amount of relevance too. I don’t want to see Celebrity gossip on Gizmodo just because they happened to use some form of social media
technology
.)
I think that the article in question ought to be published to whichever blog has the most relevance first. Like motorsport articles on Deadspin: I think they should get posted to Black Flag first, then shared to DS.
Other posts are harder to place, like articles about autonomous cars. Should they go to Gizmodo because it’s technology, or to Jalopnik because it’s transportation? That’s a tough call.

If it’s not interesting, it’s not interesting, what it costs is beside the point.
I hate when people pull this non-sequitur. Also, indirectly, everybody who clicks pays for the content.

My brother and wife are both writers for various newspapers and websites, and my brother is an editor for a local newspaper. If you aren’t writing what they want, they will stop paying you to write. It ain’t rocket science.

Well, this kid doesn’t find football interesting (which is the most lucrative sport in the US) so suffice it to say that what he finds interesting isn’t indicative of what others find interesting.
No, advertisers pay for the content. You pay nothing when you click. If you have an ad blocker, you aren’t even helping to bring in the advertisers.

As a writer with a vested interest, of course you’d think that. As an editor, your opinion might be different...
I’d also think anybody who believes they’ve always brought their editors exactly what they wanted to be extremely conceited, or at least to have a very smarmy, deceitful editor.

You have to pay to watch ESPN. Are you drunk, or is this just really hard for you to grasp?
And if ESPN could make money with cooking shows, they'd air those instead of sports. That's the way the world works.

That “brownface” article was one of the most ridiculous things I’ve ever read. I had expected them to have painted a white guy brown for promotional materials or something. But nope, it’s a costume for children. Although it can be puzzling as to why it’s there, I don’t give a h*ck about crossposting, because I can just not click on it.
